“It’s difficult to make time. I would rather sleep if the baby gives us a chance to!”
“My body responds differently. Will that be permanent?”
“Lovemaking helped us to stay connected. Now it’s so easy to feel like we’re focused on the baby and more distant from each other.”
“I feel as if someone always needs something from me. I don’t like feeling that way when my partner is trying to connect.”
Changes in intimacy and sexuality are some of the most notable shifts for parents welcoming a new baby. Studies show that these can be among the most pressing concerns for a couple in the year after birth, but women find that they aren’t able to get the support or answers they hope for.
Birthways welcomes Dr. Sheena Hoffmann to help shed light on these common experiences. Dr. Hoffman will invite a discussion and share her expertise as a therapist who specializes in sexuality and intimacy. You’ll come away with a deeper understanding of how sexual desire changes and gain tools to deepen intimacy and keep the sexual energy alive during this exciting, expansive time. Learn how your relationship can evolve during the childbearing year and emerge stronger than ever.
This informative workshop is open both to couples and the professionals that support them.
About Sheena: Dr. Sheena Hoffmann | Psychologist, PsyD, LP, CST
“Laughter is a large part of my work with clients. Therapy should be challenging, but can also be fun. My style is direct but compassionate, and my goal is to help clients live a more meaningful and joyful life.”
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and AASECT certified sex therapist. I love to help clients increase emotional, physical, and sexual intimacy. Fertility treatments, trauma leading up to conception (e.g. miscarriage, infertility), pregnancy itself, and post-natal body changes can impact spontaneity in the bedroom as well as sexual energy and body image.
I enjoy helping women and their partners identify their needs, increase body awareness and sexual communication skills, to help them work towards a satisfying and pleasurable sexual relationship with each other. I am also attuned to he needs of the LGBT community, and have years of experience working with clients across the gender and sexuality spectrum. My areas of specialty include, but are not limited to: couples and intimacy, sexual functioning, compulsive sexual behavior, kink, non-monogamy, and trauma. My therapeutic style is warm and genuine. I value a team approach to client work. I utilize gender responsive treatment informed by relational therapy, and implement mind-body techniques to build self-awareness.
