Mary Jozwiak

Mary (she/her) has been a part of Birthways since 1998 as a postpartum doula and lactation consultant. She brings decades of knowledge and experience to working with new families, with a focus on the breastfeeding relationship.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, over 30 years experience as a childcare provider, and extensive independent studies on the many health conditions and experiences related to the childbearing years. She has advanced education in child development and child psychology. Mary is a wealth of information with a deep passion for learning and helping new parents find their way.

With over 20 years as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Mary is highly skilled in helping families figure out what is most important and manageable when it comes to feeding their newborn – singleton or multiples. Mary spent many years actively involved in La Leche League as well as Sidelines, a support group for women on bed rest. She was an emergency breastfeeding hotline counselor, as well as a mother’s support group leader. Mary’s focus is on helping you decide what will be best for you and your baby – she will help you explore breastfeeding, pumping, bottle-feeding, and combinations to ensure you feel supported and successful with the choices you make.

Having three children of her own, Mary has personally experienced challenging pregnancies, Cesarean births, premature babies, and struggles with breastfeeding. As a consultant, she has worked with over 1,000 moms – she has seen it all. Mary is also an Educator, offering group and private Breastfeeding 101 classes and facilitating Case Reviews for Birthways’ doulas. Sharing her knowledge and experiences, mentoring new doulas, and consultations, Mary loves to be a resource to all those supporting new families.

With a wide lens, Mary provides emotional support and assistance in the prevention of postpartum mood disorders and has worked with families to create meal plans for specific dietary restrictions and a wide variety of ethnic foods. She excels in the areas of providing encouragement and education to families seeking help with infant care, breastfeeding, and supporting the parents to make their own decisions regarding the parenting style that is best for them.
