Tara Romsaithong (She/Her)
Tara joined Birthways in 2017 as part of the labor support and postpartum doula teams after many years as an independent doula. Having supported hundreds of families through the childbearing years, Tara brings extensive skill, knowledge, and passion to the unique experiences of birth and early parenting.
Caring for children has been a part of Tara’s path from the beginning. She has worked at a child development center, as an executive assistant for Knowledge Learning Corporation, and cared for babies and toddlers in her home. She currently owns and operates a homeschool co-op that serves about 130 children from preschool through high school.
Tara trained as a birth doula through DONA in 2009 and has supported a wide range of clients including breach vaginal, low to no-intervention, Cesarean births, VBAC/VBACS2, complicated and challenging deliveries, and surrogacy as a path to parenting. She is also very familiar with the traditions of Russian Orthodox families. Tara has built strong and lasting relationships with clients. Many return to her when welcoming subsequent children into their families. She has also cultivated positive relationships with health care providers and has experience with homebirth, birth centers, and hospital births across Chicago and the North and Northwest Suburbs. She has taken classes in childbirth preparation, aromatherapy for birth and babies, infant massage, and studied the safety and efficacy of essential oils for children.
Tara knows that birth is just the beginning and enjoys supporting parents through the joys and challenges that come in the postpartum period. Supporting feeding and sleeping routines comes with her focus on overnight support. She will help to normalize the highs and lows that come with early parenting and hold space for new parents to come into their own. She has a personal interest in nutrition and is well-versed in paleo and vegan/vegetarian diets as well as auto-immune protocol and blood type diets. Tara has supported families with children who have special needs, mothers recovering from Cesarean births, navigating breastfeeding challenges and newborn allergies, and has a particular knack for supporting siblings with adjusting to a new baby in their life.
In her own words
“I am passionate about empowering parents to raise their children in a loving and positive environment.”
What Clients Say
“Tara provided physical, mental, and emotional support…Tara helped me to better understand each step of induction, reassured me that everything was progressing normally, and encouraged me/talked me through moments when I felt tempted to panic. She coached me through contractions and pushing, and she stayed for several hours after delivery to make sure breastfeeding was well established and that I was taken care of.”
“We are so appreciative of Tara’s time with us, thank you all for the support and guidance.”
