Jessica Barrera
A native to Milwaukee, WI, Jessica has spent her life committed to serving the community she calls home. As a mother of four mostly grown children, she has experienced firsthand the challenges and joys of parenting, which have deeply informed her professional journey. For over 10 years, she has worked as a Community Health Worker, Case Manager, and Health Coach, focusing on healthcare navigation, maternal and child health, and connecting families with critical resources. Her work has always centered on advocating for people’s well-being—whether that means supporting new moms, coordinating care plans, or addressing the social determinants that impact health.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and a strong foundation in community-based care, she is passionate about helping others feel seen, supported, and empowered through every stage of life. Jessica has a deep sense of compassion, a heart for service and a love for building meaningful connections. She brings not only her professional experience in healthcare and community work, but also her life experience as a mother of four who understands how important it is to have someone by your side during life’s most tender moments.
In her free time, she loves listening to audiobooks, going to Milwaukee’s summer festivals, spending time with her fur babies, and relaxing with a good movie—especially anything Star Wars! A huge fan of Grogu (aka Baby Yoda)—his tiny size and big heart remind her that even the smallest presence can have a powerful impact. That’s how she sees doula work: as a quiet, steady presence that can make a big difference. Her goal is to help people feel seen, supported, and respected, no matter their background or circumstance.
In their own words: “I doula because I believe every person deserves to feel supported, informed, and empowered during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I know the difference it can make, and I want to help others feel safe, strong, and connected through every step of this journey.”
What clients say: “Jessica strengths are her willingness, adaptability and her level of empathy. She has a willingness to support and is always open.” —Darrell A.
