Amy Delorenzo
Amy’s journey into care work began by attending “older sister training” at 5
years old before her little brother was born. She worked as a babysitter and
nanny throughout her college years, and is joining Birthways as a Postpar-
tum Doula after witnessing many of her friends’ transformative experiences
becoming mothers.
Amy (she/her) believes we are called to serve one another. She has been practicing
mindfulness meditation since 2020, and works bi-weekly with a mindfulness
coach. She hopes to bring calm energy and an inquiring mind to all situa-
tions she encounters as a doula. She looks forward to the chance to sit with
clients’ vulnerabilities and make sure they feel heard, cared for, and under-
stood. She is excited to help them build their confidence in the early days of
motherhood. She feels honored to be welcomed into their homes and lives
in the transformational moments after bringing home their baby.
Prior to joining Birthways, Amy worked for several years in the sustainability
field, primarily in food waste reduction and composting, in addition to her
volunteer coordination work in a variety of Chicago locations. She enjoys
making connections with and learning from others. She is a loving and fun
aunt to a gaggle of nieces and nephews around the country and world. Amy
enjoys reading, having thoughtful conversations, doing jigsaw puzzles and
playing games. She loves traveling and eating all sorts of different cuisines.
She is energized by people and being with loved ones. Her strongest love
language is food – she greatly enjoys cooking for herself and others, nourish-
ing people with good food is one of her favorite things to do!
In their own words:
“I doula to bear witness to the awesome transformation that occurs when
someone becomes a mother. I doula to be a companion, a thought partner, a
confidence-builder, and a soft place to land when you may feel uncertain
about what to do next. I doula to care for those, who care for everyone else.”
What clients say:
“Amy is a thoughtful and empathetic person. She always looks for little ways
she can help people, even if not explicitly asked she can see the unspoken
needs. Amy is one of those people who makes you feel special and puts her
heart into what she does.” -Nancy N.
“Amy has shown up in a doula capacity for friends and acquaintances for
many years. She is a community minded, service-based, thoughtful caregiv-
er. She offers a beautiful presence.” -Kathryn N.
